Disclaimer
This draft explains what this website does and does not promise, what DebtFid is and is not, and why the content here is general information rather than advice for your case.
General information only
The content on this website is provided for general information. It describes how loan settlement and related processes commonly work in India. It is not tailored to your circumstances, and it should not be treated as a substitute for advice about your own situation.
Not legal, financial or tax advice
Nothing on this website is legal, financial, tax or investment advice, and nothing here creates a professional advisory relationship. Reading these pages, or submitting an enquiry, does not make DebtFid your lawyer, financial adviser or tax adviser.
Decisions about a debt, a settlement or a legal notice have consequences that depend on facts we may not know. Please obtain independent advice from a qualified professional before acting or deciding not to act.
No client relationship
Using this website or submitting an enquiry does not, by itself, create a client relationship. A client relationship would arise only through a separate, agreed engagement on confirmed terms. Until that is in place, no duty of care, no representation and no confidentiality obligation of that kind arises from a website visit or an enquiry.
No guaranteed outcomes
DebtFid does not guarantee any of the following, and nothing on this website should be read as promising them:
- That a settlement will be reached at all.
- That any particular reduction or write-off amount will be achieved.
- That a lender will approve any proposal.
- That your credit score will improve, or will not be affected.
- That recovery calls, messages or visits will stop.
- Any legal outcome, or any particular result in any dispute or proceeding.
Settlement decisions rest entirely with the lender. Outcomes vary by lender, by case and by facts that are outside our control.
DebtFid's status
DebtFid is a loan settlement and debt-relief assistance service. DebtFid is not:
- a bank, a lender or an NBFC;
- a law firm, and it does not provide legal representation;
- a debt purchaser or a collection agency acting for a lender;
- a credit bureau or credit-rating agency;
- a regulator, or a body regulated by the Reserve Bank of India;
- an authorised representative of any lender.
DebtFid does not act on behalf of any lender and does not claim any regulatory approval, licence or authorisation. Any statement on this website should be read with those limits in mind.
Educational content and individual circumstances
The guides and explanations on this website are educational. They describe general patterns and general consequences. Two borrowers in apparently similar positions can face very different outcomes because of the lender involved, the type of debt, the age of the account, the borrower's wider credit profile and the documents available.
Because of that, nothing in the educational content can tell you what will happen in your case. It can only help you understand the questions worth asking.
Settlement and your credit report
A settlement is not the same as repaying a loan in full or closing it. A settlement typically means the lender accepts less than the total outstanding as full and final payment. Lenders generally record a settlement differently from a full repayment or a normal closure, and settling for less than the amount owed is often viewed negatively by future lenders.
The precise effect on your credit history depends on how the lender reports the account and on your wider profile. This is one of the most important trade-offs to weigh before agreeing to anything.
| Aspect | Settlement | Full repayment or closure |
|---|---|---|
| Amount paid | Less than the total outstanding | The total outstanding, including applicable charges |
| Who decides | The lender decides whether to accept | The borrower repays in the ordinary course |
| Typical recording | Often recorded as a settlement | Normally recorded as closed or fully repaid |
| Effect on credit history | May be viewed negatively by future lenders | Generally reflects repayment in full |

Accuracy and currency of content
